Fribourg & Treyer Blackjack

Fribourg & Treyer Blackjack 50g Pipe Tobacco is a traditional straight Virginia blend combining carefully selected bright, orange and red Virginia tobaccos. Pressed into a cake before being sliced and rubbed into a broken flake, Blackjack places the natural character of quality Virginia leaf firmly at the centre of the blend.

The tobacco composition of Fribourg & Treyer Blackjack is deliberately straightforward, relying entirely on Virginia leaf rather than additional tobacco varieties. Red Virginias provide depth and natural sweetness, while brighter Virginia leaf contributes the lighter grassy and citrus characteristics traditionally associated with flue-cured tobacco.

During production, the selected Virginias are pressed together into a dense cake. This is subsequently sliced before the individual slices are carefully teased apart, resulting in the distinctive broken Virginia flake / ready-rubbed cut found inside each tin. This traditional preparation gives Blackjack more texture than a conventional ribbon-cut tobacco while avoiding the intact slices associated with a full flake.

A Traditional Broken Virginia Flake

Fribourg & Treyer Blackjack Pipe Tobacco is distinguished by both its simplicity and its traditional preparation. Rather than introducing Cavendish, Burley, Latakia or aromatic flavourings, the blend concentrates on the different characteristics that can be achieved through carefully selected Virginia tobaccos.

Pressing the Virginias into a cake allows the different leaves to integrate before the tobacco is sliced and rubbed apart. The finished broken flake retains the naturally sweet tobacco character of Virginia alongside grassy, hay-like and subtle citrus notes associated with the leaf.

Presented in a 50g pipe tobacco tin, Fribourg & Treyer Blackjack is a classic example of a non-aromatic straight Virginia pipe tobacco. Its combination of bright, orange and red Virginias, pressed preparation and distinctive broken-flake cut gives Fribourg & Treyer Blackjack 50g a clear identity within the historic Fribourg & Treyer range.
